About Speak Your Peace

After a series of conversations with her teenage daughter, family, and friends Tashi noticed a pattern, her loved ones were not properly healing from their past traumas.  Often times we deal with things and never release them, ultimately causing us to break bonds, act out of anger, damage relationships and more. We’re holding on to trauma that started as a teen and sometimes younger that effects how we operate as adults.

Although Tashi has always had a close relationship with her daughter, she realized that the majority of youth aren’t as comfortable opening up with their parents or other adults during the times they need someone to listen the most. She knew in order for young women to succeed as adults, they needed the right attention and support.  Tashi grew a passion to help girls address their pains, providing a safe place to share their stories, motivating them to persevere, and in 2018 she founded Speak Your Peace.

Founded in Washington DC, Speak Your Peace became a registered non profit March 3, 2019.

Tashi has been consistent in her efforts further raising awareness and fueling the Speak Your Peace mission by hosting numerous women and teen empowerment events, as well as partnering and collaborating with other women . Tashi has partnered with local schools as an emotional support group, and most recently partnered with the Community Action Group in its efforts to bring awareness to the state mental health and opioid crisis.

“With the spike in teen suicide, runaways, overdoses, and confrontations I believe we all sometimes just need an outlet I thought of how women empowerment events have helped so many open up and start the healing process, I decided to create something that would award the same opportunities for the younger generation.” – Tashi Rawls
